Viira Outlook Suite 2.0 Released

Filed under: Viira Outlook Suite — admin @ 4:23 pm

We are happy to announce that verison 2.0 of the Viira Outlook Suite is now available for download. In this verison we have introduced big improvements in both the Outlook plugin and the BlackBerry client in order to bring an even more intuitive, effective and deeply-integrated productivity experience for all of you.

Here is what’s new in version 2.0 of the Viira Outlook Suite:

  • Contact tasks [Outlook screenshot here]: Create tasks based on your contacts when you need to call, contact or follow-up with anyone. Simply select Create Viira Suite Task from the right-click menu in your Outlook contacts or from the menu in your BlackBerry Contacts application.
  • Touch-screen interface. Owners of a BlackBerry Bold 9900 or Torch 98xx series device can perform all frequent actions with a tap on the screen.
  • Memo tasks [Outlook plugin screenshot here]: Integrate notes and memos into your GTD system with ease. Just like contact tasks, memo tasks can be created both on your BlackBerry and from Outlook and get synchronized between the two.
  • Quick Add: Add New Tasks Quickly. Perfect for the times where you have a number of new tasks or ideas to record, the quick add field enables you to enter them one after the other in quick succession. Just type in the tasks name and press ENTER, then repeat as needed! Available from both the Outlook plugin and BlackBerry client.
  • Print. You can now print from any of the views of the Outlook plugin.
  • Overdue tasks in Outlook plugin. Just like in the BlackBerry client, the Day View tab of the Outlook plugin displays all overdue tasks in red to make sure no tasks gets inadvertently forgotten.
  • Starred projects and contexts. Mark your important or frequently used project or contexts with a star. Starred projects and contexts always appear at the top of the list making it easier to navigate or select them.
  • Compact Mode. Fit more of your Viira data on your BlackBerry’s screen. Particularly useful for owners of touch screen models like the BlackBerry 9900 or the BlackBerry Torch series, turning on compact mode lets you see more of your tasks for any project, context or day. You can turn on Compact Mode by going to Settings->General Settings->Compact Mode.
  • And more! The new release contains a number of other small updates, too numerous to list here.

Version 2.0 of the Viira Outlook Suite requires BlackBerry OS 5.0 or better and is compatible with all versions of MS Outlook since 2003. You can download the latest version from the Viira Outlook Suite download page.

As always, the Viira Outlook Suite comes with a 14-day free trial and buyers of previous versions as well as Viira 3 can upgrade for a special low price.

  1. Did the facility to imprt Outlook Categories make it into this release, or is that a future plan? I couldn’t find it.

  3. Hi Chris,

Glad to hear that you like what the new version has to offer! Importing categories didn’t make the final cut in this release because the implementation didn’t meet our strict quality requirements. It was one of the difficult decisions that unfortunately had to be done in order to ship the 2.0 version on time….

We will revisiting the implementation so expect to see it in the next point update. Stay tuned!

  4. I’ve been using Viira Outlook Suite for some time and it’s basically become a part of my everyday routine. Definitely an asset. What would be REALLY cool though would be if I could integrate it into my BB Playbook. Has there been any discussion in regards to this?

  5. I just saw your Nov 11, 2011 Viira for Playbook coming up and subscribed to the updates. I’m quite excited about this actually. It will increase the usefulness of the Playbook for me by a 100%. My wife may never see it again!!

  6. Hi Dave,

A synchronized experience across Outlook, BlackBerry and Playbook/tablet is exactly the direction we are headed, so stay tuned! Now that the PB 2.0 is out and apps can be built for it, we are even more excited, and my wife is seeing a lot less of the Playbook now!! :-)

Actually the beta version of Viira for the Playbook is waiting for approval in App World and it will be available shortly - once the approval backlog in App World clears. Apparently they had so many app submissions that they are struggling to cope with the influx! We will be sending an email blast to the Playbook list as soon as it is available for download.

  7. Was the outlook plugin developed in AddIn Express? If so, could you update to the latest version that addresses the font changing problem that occurs when you hit backspace while writing an email generated by hitting send file from another Office 2010 program.

  8. Ralph, we haven’t heard of this problem which you are describing. Can you give us more details? If it affects the Viira Outlook Plugin we will immediately investigate and provide a fix.
