Viira 3.1 Released: Touch Screen Interface, Quick Add and More

Viira 3.1 is ready and available for download. The latest update includes a number of new productivity features and ease-of-use enhancements which we are excited to bring to you. With the new generation of BlackBerry 7 devices like the BlackBerry 9900 and new Torch model series being rolled out we have also included a few features that take advantage of the touch screen capabilities of these devices.

Here is what’s new in Viira 3.1:

  • Touch Screen Interface. If you have a touch screen device like a BlackBerry Bold 9900, a BlackBerry Torch or BlackBerry Storm you will see a command panel with touchscreen buttons that contain the most frequently used actions in Viira. You can now create, edit, delete and mark tasks as completed with just a tap on the screen.
  • Quick Add: Add New Tasks Quickly. Perfect for the times where you have a number of new tasks or ideas to record, the quick add field enables you to enter them one after the other in quick succession. Just type in the tasks name and press ENTER, then repeat as needed!
  • Starred Projects and Contexts. Mark your important or frequently used project or contexts with a star. Starred projects and contexts always appear at the top of the list making it easier to navigate or select them.
  • Compact Mode. Fit more of your Viira data on your BlackBerry’s screen. Particularly useful for owners of touch screen models like the BlackBerry 9900 or the BlackBerry Torch series, turning on compact mode lets you see more of your tasks for any project, context or day. You can turn on Compact Mode by going to Settings->General Settings->Compact Mode.

  1. With the 3.1 update, when I make a task in the in-basket, I am unable to assign it a context or project. Even if I apply a context/project and save, the task remains in the in-basket, unassigned. (BB Bold 9650)

  2. Kyle, I tried to reproduce the problem on a few of our in-house devices but assigning projects or contexts worked as expected here and the tasks were moved away from the In-Basket.

    Can you tell me a littel bit more, e.g. what OS version does your Bold 9650 have? Also, can you tell me if the task is still there if you open the In-Basket again (switch to another view then go back to the In-Basket)?

  3. A bug report.

    On Curve 9300, when adding a task, it does not appear in BB tasks. The only way to make it appear is to add a reminder, then Save, then remove the reminder.

    Also, I’ve emailed customer support abot some other issues but have not had a reply (although has only been 24 hours). Is there a better method to contact re. Viira concerns / issues?

  4. Mike, what you are seeing is actually by design. Right now Viira reads in all tasks from your native BlackBerry tasks and lets you modify them and assign them in your GTD system. At present tasks created in Viira do not automatically get pushed to the native tasks, except in the case of a task with a reminder like you have correctly noticed. (The Viira Outlook Suite does however push any tasks created in it , both on the BlackBerry and on Outlook to the corresponding native tasks system.)

    With that being said, other have requested the full availability of all Viira tasks in the native tasks app and we will be adding this feature in the next software update. So stay tuned!

  6. Hi Jimmy,

    The new touchscreen interface will be available on the Viira Outlook Suite BlackBerry client over the next few weeks. In addition to all the new features in Viira 3.1 like touchscreen , quick add etc. that we are in the process of porting to the Viira Outlook Suite you will also see a number of new capabilities as well. I wish I could disclose them here but all i have to say is stay tuned!
