Viira for BlackBerry Playbook Beta Released

Filed under: BlackBerry Playbook, Viira, gtd — Tags: , , — admin @ 1:55 pm

To all of you anxiously waiting for the Playbook version of Viira, we have great news. Viira for the BlackBerry Playbook has now officially been approved by App World and is available for download!

To download Viira, just open App World on your Playbook and search for “Viira”.

Viira for the Playbook is a free beta and requires Playbook OS 2.0 or later. This version is a Playbook-only version and does not sync with your BlackBerry device - yet. However as we roll out our cloud sync service over the coming months our goal is to provide just that: a seamless BlackBerry-Playbook wireless sync of your GTD system - so stay tuned!

The current beta version (version 0.9.2) provides the core pillars of a GTD system on the BlackBerry Playbook such as projects, contexts, a day view and an In-Basket. Over the coming months we will be rolling out support for additional productivity constructs to bring the Playbook version of Viira en par with the feature set of Viira 4, including support for capabilities like task ordering, calendar integration, next actions etc.

In the meantime we would love to hear your feedback so let us know what you think of Viira for the Playbook as well as ways that you think will make it better and more effective!

  1. Viira v4 rocks now it syncs with the native tasks app. Please look at synching the PlayBook version.

  2. Hello,

After downloading Viira it was not visible on the desktop of my Blackberry Playbook.
Then I downloaded Evernote - that was not visible either.

Only after removing an application (in my case: Facebook) Viira was visible.

Maybe you can add a note on your download page like ‘If you don’t see Viira on the desktop try removing an app you don’t need.’ I had already given up trying Viira when Evernote showed the same behaviour.

    Kind regards,

    K.E. van Zanten

  3. Hello,

I downloaded Viira yesterday. Within half an hour the app froze.

I turned opened and closed Viira a few times, but it stayed frozen. After half an hour or so, I could use it again.

Just now it froze again. So I closed and opened the app a few times - to no avail, just like yesterday. I closed it and started typing this comment. Then I opened the app again and got the message Initializing. After some seconds the app appeared and worked again.

I am glad the app recovers from freezes.

I should like it to freeze a bit less often.

    Kind regards,

    K.E. van Zanten

  4. Hi K.E. van Zanten,

Thanks for letting us know about this!

Do you happen to have a lot of apps installed on your Playbook? Freezing of apps can be due to the Android player software on the Playbook, we have experienced this problem with other apps. Actually just the other day I had a really hard time “unfreezing” the Kindle app on one of our Playbooks. It was only after removing other apps and deleting data (books) from the Kindle app that I was able to restore it to full functionality.

We will keep an eye on this problem, but in the meantime you might want to try reducing the number of apps or trimming the amount of storage that they require, if they do happen to require lots of it as in the case of the Kindle app.

  5. any plans to release a native version for the playbook and not an android port?

  6. Our plan is to first release a PB client that works smoothly with our upcoming cloud sync so that people can start syncing between their BB and PB. The first cut will be an Android-based port, doing it this way makes it possible to release something that works much sooner than building a native PB version.

As the PB version of Viira gains more traction we may replace it with one written against the native PB SDK, but at first it will be Android port.
